PRESENTATION: (15 min)
This is going to be
a reading activity taken from the GRAMMAR IN DISCOURSE BOOK.
PRE- READING ACTIVITY
Have the students
discuss the following questions.
1- Do you like to
travel?
2- What are some good
and bad things about traveling?
3- Can you predict
what is going to be the reading about?
DURING READING ACTIVITY
In this stage
students will be reading the given text individually. Then, the students will
circle and match the items after reading the text.
TALES OF AWORLD TRAVELER
According
to Guinness World Records tm, John Clouse has visited more places
than any one else in the world. He has been to 192 countries and almost all of
the 5 world’s territories. In his travels, he has crossed the Atlantic Ocean at
least 100 times and the Pacific Ocean 40 or 50 times. In addition to holding
the Guinness World record for travel, Clouse is also the most traveled
member
of the
Traveler’s Century Club. All the members of this club have traveled to at least
100 countries.
All of this
traveling has cost John Clouse a lot of money. So far he has spent about $1.25
million. It has also taken along time. Clouse started traveling 40 years ago.
Has John
Clouse stopped traveling? No, he hasn´t. He has continued his journeys. There
are three places that he hasn’t visited yet: The Paracel Islands in the South
China Sea; Clipperton, a French Island about 700miles west of Acapulco, Mexico;
and Bouvet Island, near Antarctica.
Some of
Clouse´s journeys have been difficult. For example, while trying to reach
Danger Island in the Pacific, he almost had to turn back just a few yards from
the shore because the waves were to high. The real problem was that he doesn’t
know how to swim, so another man had to carry him on his back!
Clouse has
never public stated his favorite country. He doesn´t like to list favorites,
but he has said that Kenya and Tanzania in Africa both are beautiful. What
place has Clouse visited the most?
Paris. He
has been there 35 times. Does Clouse feel proud of his world record? Not at
all. In fact, he realizes that it’s all a bit ridiculous. “Wanderlust is a
sickness that I got from my father. After all, if you’ve seen one atoll, you’ve
seen them all,” he says with a smile.
POST- READING ACTIVITY
Have the students
share and discuss their answers with their classmates and then you have to sent me the activity in the intermediate group on facebook http://www.facebook.com/groups/155084647954777/
I think that in this part directions are clear, but what about the activities. In the pre-activity for example are they going to paste their opinions in the group in facebook or where???. in the during-activity, I think the exercises are taken from the book, so how are you going to know students have done the exercise? The same happens with the post- activity. How are going students to show you they have discuss the questions? so you would have used any of the sources we have learned like voxopop or mailvu
ResponderEliminarYou should make an online quiz about the reading so that the students can answer it and give you the answers and you can be sure about that the activity was carried correctly.
